End of an Era in Entertainment Management
Marty Erlichman, the towering behind-the-scenes force who famously discovered and managed entertainment icon Barbra Streisand for more than sixty years, has passed away at the age of 97. Publications including Deadline, Variety, and The Hollywood Reporter confirmed his passing, marking the end of one of the most enduring and successful partnerships in Hollywood history.
Discovering a Generation-Defining Talent
Erlichman’s professional legacy is permanently intertwined with the meteoric rise of Streisand. In the early 1960s, Erlichman heard a young Streisand singing at a Greenwich Village nightclub called The Bon Soir. Recognizing a once-in-a-generation voice and theatrical presence, he immediately took her under his wing. Under his meticulous guidance, Streisand transitioned from a burgeoning club act into an undisputed global superstar, conquering Broadway, music charts, television, and Hollywood cinema.
A Masterclass in Career Longevity
Beyond his monumental work with Streisand, Erlichman was a formidable producer and talent manager in his own right. He produced significant film projects, including the 1976 musical remake of A Star Is Born starring Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, as well as features like The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh and the acclaimed television series adaptation of The Fugitive in the 2000s.
